Information Officers Benefit from NILSCAP

A conference on E-Journalism is underway at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Accra. The course tailored to meet the need of information officials in the parliament is one in the series of training workshops carried out by the National Institute for Legislative Studies’ Capacity Building (NILS-CAP) funded by the African Capacity Building Foundation.

At the opening of the 6-day programme, the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah took participants through the rudiment of journalism while exploring the principles and elements of same.
He likened a communicator to the conductor of an orchestra with so many instruments to lead in order to create a great sound; he reiterated the need for a communicator to possess many tools with which to achieve the best result.
The interactive session hoisted varied views on the emergence of E-Journalism and its impact in simplifying the profession through active engagements by a larger number of citizens.
It was also posited that the new media has allowed for speed against the backdrop of simultaneous information sharing in writing, sound and pictures which can be exchanged within fractions of seconds around the world.
The training programme which will focus on numerous areas of communication with special concentration on E-Journalism features “blogging, wiki, vlogging, podcasting and content management systems” among others.
In attendance were 19 participants drawn from States Assemblies from the 6 geo political zones of Nigeria, ECOWAS Parliament, Nigerian National Assembly, The Gambian Parliament and the National Institute for Legislative Studies.
